CUTTING LOOSE/ A WALK THROUGH ART HISTORY
In 2013 the installation CUTTING LOOSE/ A WALK THROUGH ART HISTORY was presented at Viridian gallery in Chelsea, NY. This is a 20 foot wide by 6 foot deep installation. The backdrop is a photomural of the facade of the Metropolitan Museum of Art with the sign altered to read SUSAN SILLS/ CUTTING LOOSE. On the “steps” lounge 25 lifesize painted wood cutouts of characters from paintings that might be housed in the museum. It is as if they had escaped their confines and come out for a breath of air. The characters of Renoir, Ingres, Gauguin and others are being gawked at by some cutout bystanders, one of whom is concentrating on taking their photo.
